R.I.P Louise Bourgeois

Artist Louise Bourgeois, the art world's grand dame & most important living female artist, known for her large-scale sculptures symbolizing women's feelings on sexuality & memory, died in NYC Monday at the age of 98. Bourgeois continued to seduce & captive the world with her strangely feminine work throughout her 70+ year-long career and her life & work are destined to be celebrated for many years to come.

Happy 40th Birthday Kenzo

This year Kenzo celebrates it's 40th anniversary with a range of limited edition goods that are destined to touch upon the label's rich history. We are not only big fans of vintage Kenzo, we also happen to admire what creative director Antonio Marras has been doing with the label over the past few seasons. In fact, we happen to think his collections for the label continue to deliver beautifully made, luxe-boho garb that you can't find anywhere else.

Vnyc Thanks Zuburbia for Endless Shopping Ideas

Vnyc wanted to thank Zuburbia.com's Vintage Women's Blog for it's endless support of our shop & it's goods. Their VPOD or Vintage Pick of the Day continues to charm readers with dedicated daily selections of the best, carefully chosen vintage pieces up for grabs online. Here's what they said about our 80's era Gianfranco Ferre sweater:

Zuburbia's Vintage Pick of the Day: Vintage 1980s Gianfranco Ferre Sweater

80's Gianfranco Ferre Contrast Sweater-$284

"They say that vertical stripes make you appear slimmer. And they say that horizontal stripes make you appear wider. But I say that when you mix them all together like today’s VPOD, then stripes just look fantastic!

This bold 1980s graphic sweater by Gianfranco Ferre combines two of my favorites, grey and black, with two of my not-so-favorites, yellow and purple, for an eye-catching combination that I just love. Its criss-crossing design, its soft collar and its dolman sleeves are just begging for a body-hugging black catsuit or a simple pair of black slacks.

It’s a vintage separate that packs a real punch for a vintage fashionista!"

One for the Smoker's: Margiela's New Pocket Tee

While Maison Martin Margiela's newly unveiled "smoker's" pocket-tee may not be incredibly original, the label does deserve props for offering us misfit smoker's a fun option now that we've been forced to pay enormous taxes for our bad habit & have been bombarded with an onslaught of negative energy.

P.S-we get that it's a bad habit...

Channel Christopher Kane Fall 2010 in Vnyc

We've said it before & we'll say it again: Christopher Kane's Fall 2010 outing happens to be one of our favorites, so we just had to mention our own vintage embroidered leather dress & top that smartly channel his inventive take on next seasons must-have fabrication: leather.

Christopher Kane Fall 2010(above)

Channel Christopher Kane's beautifully perverse take on classic embroideries for Fall 2010 with Vnyc's 80's era embroidered leather taupe tube & black dress. While the tube's color-way happens to be much more subdued(read wearable), both pieces unique juxtaposition of leather and delicate florals combined with a lady-like shape hit all of Kane's notes dead-on.
