Dear Santa...

There's only 50 days left until Christmas and I promise I have been a good girl (well, maybe with the exception of last Saturday night but that was just the once, promise!) and there's nothing I would like to see more than a Tom Binn's piece waiting for me under my tree.

Belfast born designer Tom Binns started his career in 1981. He considers the early 20th century protest art movement Dadaism to be a major influence upon his work, entirely appropriate when one considers the political history and political art of the city from which he hails.

Through his work Binns states that he rejects an accepted standard of beauty and social organisation and welcomes a deliberate paradoxical element to his design.

This ethos could not have been more thoroughly expressed than it was in his S/S '12 'Tough Talk' collection, with neon words like 'punk' and 'rocker' articulating Binns' sentiment against an elaborate crystal necklace.

Irrational is defined in the dictionary as 'not governed by or according to reason' and this could not be the more suitable adjective to ascribe to Binns as a designer. He garners his own influences and embraces them in an aesthetic that is exclusively his own.
