Shop-Talk Nyc: Orchard St.'s Ale et Ange

One of us is lucky enough to live right above Ale Et Ange on Orchard St, one of New York's sweetest new boutiques to recently pop-up. Charmingly located in the basement of #37 Orchard, it's super-cute facade complete with red door, green siding and naively painted flowers is a good indicator of the easy classics that are in-store. Once you're down the welcoming flight of stairs expect to feel as if you've walked into a soothing, dream get-away with it's charming use of retro fixtures used as display curios, stone walls and rustic appeal. The warm space houses an eponymous line of classic, well-made men's and women's preppy staples & accessories as well as a line of apothecary items.

WE (or maybe just "I") didn't do much at all yesterday but pour over the amazing sale at YOOX- more amazing than it's ever ever been and that means 5 or 6 hours imagining ourselves in that Stella yeti-sleeved blanket zip cardi that used to be 1400 bucks and is now 500 and on to the Jetson shouldered Comme wonders and then the Clare Tough goodness and endlessly until like an overloaded energy-grid our (my) brains just stopped. The eyes were open and really wanted to keep going, but the connection was off. I took a nap and Naveed took off. I didn't buy anything which is good. I guess. I did however later come upon my favorite new guilty pleasure blog. Trust Fun! Presents Fashematics - A simple brilliant concept blog run by smart-asses with good taste wrapped in an astute silly, brilliant, sharp pop culture critique.

This is one of the less rtw focused equations and maybe an annoying insidey sorta thing. Still, it's my favorite. It says so much with so little. Ahhh:

I'm sorry W. You are by far BY FAR the best of the three (Vogue, Bazaar... y'know) but it's hard to justify spending 4 bucks on one editorial and 12 ads. That said, if it's a spread shot by Juergen or Inez+Vinoodh and/or is styled by Camilla Nickerson or Joe Mckenna, I'll throw down. But things aren't looking good...YOOX would and could do well to offer W a few chunks from it's grotesquely over-stuffed larder.

Shop-Talk Nyc: Dear: 55

While New York City undeniably has the best shopping this side of the Atlantic, one could argue that there may be too many choices, and that shopping here can be a bit overwhelming because there are is so much from high to low. And out of the thousands of options, we wanted to take a moment and start highlighting our own favorites throughout the city. Lower East Side boutique Dear: 55 may be owned by two of New York's most stylish inhabitants, and may be smartly bathed in Margiela-esque chalky white paint, but it also boasts an incredibly well-priced array of some of the cities most covetable, well designed one-offs. You can call these pieces one-offs simply because you can't find anything like what they have on offer anywhere else stateside. Owners Moon Ree & Hey Ja Do seem to have a knack for picking out pieces that feel uncompromisingly unusual, with an arty, intellectual avant-garde bent that at the same time feel effortless, breezy and still completely cool & forward.

Update: Dear: 55 has moved to a bigger, bolder space on the Lower East Side's Rivington st. on the corner of Ludlow & now houses a floor devoted to collectible house-wares.
