Baby, It's Getting Cold Outside

Alexander Wang

As the song goes:
To every season (turn, turn, turn)
There is a reason (turn, turn, turn)
And a time to every purpose

And what better purpose than to update your wardrobe as the mercury levels start to drop? It's getting chillier in NYC but we here at Vagabond have everything you  need to keep you nice and haute.

In a nod to 90's Mod, Alexander Wang put forward a collection heavily indebted to the parka and it couldn't have come at a better time following the 'Mod-father' Ian Brown's decision to (finally) hop on the reunion bandwagon and get back with his old cronies The Stone Roses.

Or if a parka is too grunge for you, you might like to try out it's ever so classy cousin the trench coat. Check out our Issey Miyake Sheepskin Cocoon Trench:

Or how about snuggling up in this  Geoffrey Beene number with its contrasting stripe and houndstooth patterns?

A true F/W staple, houndstooth originated in Scotland and was made from woven wool but Mr. Beene took it on board and heralded his own stamp on the pattern by combining it with lace in the 1960's. Innovative and classic all at once.

Medal of Honor: 70's Karl Lagerfeld

Fall Winter 2011 -- Maltese Crosses; Militaristic Embellishments

Karl Lagerfeld Scarf Print Set with Metallic Quilted Skirt

Versace Fall Winter 2011 Print Ad

In an extension of the Byzantine Trend that was explored in the Fall of 2010, this season the au courant adornment is the gold maltese cross, or any military inspired brooch, belt buckle, or print motif. The Maltese Cross was introduced into costume jewelry when, notably, Italian jeweler Fulco di Verdura set the Maltese Cross into a cuff for Coco Chanel when he was designing her costume jewelry collection.

Versace worked the gold crests into the hardware that added a glam toughness to the collection, and there is further evidence that this style will be going strong well into Spring, if the looks at Balmain are any indication.

Do Something Different...

Being a fan of such period revivalist variety shows as The Citizen's Band and A Prairie Home Companion, we were thrilled to come across Brooklyn based performance troupe The Moon. Oh, the uniting power of vintage fashion!

The Moon's show is an old-fashioned vaudevillian mix of comedy, music, dance, videos, cartoons, clowns, and other interesting acts, all tied together with an ongoing storyline. The cast, known as Moonkids, all dress in vintage suits and costumes, so we are dying to check out what they're put together for their upcoming Fall Classic show.

Now, before you start thinking this is one of those kitschy old-timey novelty acts you see doing the State Fair circuit, be advised that the type of humor you're likely to encounter at one of The Moon's shows veers more towards Steve Martin than Arthur Askey. There is a cerebral element to the writing, appealing to the nerdiness that dwells within us all.

On October 9 at 7:30 PM, The Moon is holding one of their specials at the brand-new Upright Citizen's Brigade Theatre, at 155 East 3rd Street in the East Village. The show is called The Moon Fall Classic, and that evening will be featuring:
With additional appearances from the rest of the cast, including: Stephanie Fagan, Bryan Condon, Jordan Clifford, and Tim Skinner.
Admission is $5 -- their last special performance sold out, so get em while you can and Vagabond will see you there! Click Here for the link.
The Moon's past performances have included a tradition of performing those quote worthy scenes from classics such as Jurassic Park, and The Sandlot. Future installations that we have to look forward to are watershed moments from the likes of Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, Pee Wee's Big Adventure, and Aliens!

Trip McNealy was a sexual icon at Huntington Hills High. Now he’s a fucking joke. Mike Dexter better watch out, because he’s headed down the same path.

Tod's Your Uncle

These Tod's ballet slipper inspired shoes would certainly be Minnie Mouse's footwear of choice if she were to be taking a cruise on the Amalfi Coast in her freshly restored '74 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia.

For all you discerning tastemakers out there, these classic flats bear signature Tod's design details, such as the rounded square toe, seam topstitching, and of course, those lovely little rubber pebbles on the sole. Kicky and comfortable; channel some Euro luxury even if it's on the New Jersey Turnpike.

Aside from their mothers and their cars, Italian, and pseudo-Italian men have another great love: their footwear choices.
