There's More Than One Way To Skin A Cat

It is undeniable that the cat is a fetish object, and fashion, being as it is the catalyst for us to explore our fantasies, has welcomed the puss appeal into its pantheon of sexual imagery. There's an entire subsection of fashion terminology based entirely on cats: kitten heels, catwalk, catsuit, sex kitten ... (there might be more but we'll quit while we're ahead). Blame it on the purring and the sashaying hips, when a woman is on the prowl she transforms into a primal combination of female and feline, human and beast. The sensual power is transformative, and we're certainly not the only ones who've been feeling a little kittenish lately.

Chanel Fall Winter 2011-2012 ad campaign. Styled by Carine Roitfeld, featuring Freja Beha Erichsen
Shot by the Kaiser himself. This is the first official photo that's been released, following the scandal involving Lagerfeld's claims that the other campaign images that had leaked last month. See what else Freja does in the photo booth in this article on nymag.com.

We've been feeling similarly inspired by Givenchy FW 11-12 runway. So turned on by the black magic panther theme.

And what would a post about the fierceness of flaunting your feline side (alliteration) be without a not to the proud and the few who pioneered the body con look in their alternately spandex, lurex, and latex costumes. Cat Woman's image may have been sullied slightly by Halle Berry's embarrassing turn in the role, but we like to think of Eartha Kitt's purr and fiercely bawdy attitude as the definitive version of the superhero.
