Kind Of Blue

Blue and its countless iterations - navy, cobalt, sapphire, cerulean, aquamarine, azure, electric, royal, turquoise, midnight, baby, robin's egg, indigo - the list goes on -- is possibly one of the most universally flattering colors. The most variable, versatile and dynamic of hues, blue ranges from organic, soothing, delicate, to florid, electric, and intense and is capable of evoking emotions and memories both superficial and sublime. It is best used sparingly in certain cases and in other cases can serve to anchor a look or act as canvas to prints. Navy together with nudes & the ubiquitous makeup shades were a popular pairing for spring 2010, replacing hard blacks and metallics as a designer neutrals of choice.

Best of New York Fall/Winter 2010

Here's a look at some of our favorite collections from New York's Fall 2010 shows that are destined to inspire Vagabondnyc.com's future buys:

Marc Jacobs Collection
(above)
After several hair-raising collections full of ostentatious complexities and unapologetic clutter, Marc Jacobs was back in full form for Fall 2010 making his collection one of the week's top highlights, if not the best collection of the week itself. Addressing fashion's call for cleaner garb, Jacob's was on the dot with a range that this time referenced his own quiet, well-studied girl of the past in a right-on-the money palette of sober pastels and grays. While the collection tinged with a vaguely 70's sweetness, it was updates on his love of the grunge era, evident with 20's inspired devore velvet gowns, one worn under a chunky cable knit sweater and the 60's that made this a stand-out. Add to that a bevy of fantastic must-have coats in all varieties and suiting with a sweet school girl nonchalance, and you've got plenty of reason to start the decade anew.

Richard Chai Love
Richard Chai has quickly made a name for himself with his easy separates with a quirky downtown ease and his Fall 2010 outing with his lower price line Richard Chai Love did not disappoint with it's romantic layered styling.

Altuzarra
While the rest of the fashion flock seems to be moving towards a more sensible take on clean garb, Joseph Altuzarra sent out a collection that was anything but sobering. His fierce use of fur, body-con shapes and leather was a knockout, hands down.

Oscar De la Renta
Oscar De La Renta's fall Lady has quite a lot of exciting options full of explosive colorways with super-deluxe treatments that were anything but restrained.

The Perfect Fall Blouse from Oscar de la Renta

From the 70's comes this glam OSCAR DE LA RENTA Russian inspired blouse that is truly the perfect fall blouse since it hit's all of today's trends without being too loud about what's going today. First of all, its darkly romantic with its muted florals set against matte gold & black, second, it has rows of dramatic ruffles that highlight the shoulders like we saw from labels like Christoper Kane, Dries Van Noten & even Gucci. But best of all are the puffy, voluminous sleeves that make the blouse the perfect companion to a high-waisted jean/fur puff vest combo.
