Kind Of Blue

Blue and its countless iterations - navy, cobalt, sapphire, cerulean, aquamarine, azure, electric, royal, turquoise, midnight, baby, robin's egg, indigo - the list goes on -- is possibly one of the most universally flattering colors. The most variable, versatile and dynamic of hues, blue ranges from organic, soothing, delicate, to florid, electric, and intense and is capable of evoking emotions and memories both superficial and sublime. It is best used sparingly in certain cases and in other cases can serve to anchor a look or act as canvas to prints. Navy together with nudes & the ubiquitous makeup shades were a popular pairing for spring 2010, replacing hard blacks and metallics as a designer neutrals of choice.

Vogue.com Celebrates the Joy of Collecting 90's Vintage

Ladies, we just had to point out Vogue.com's October Scoop by Hamish Bowles that high-lighted the next big trend in collecting vintage, collecting 80's/90's era pieces from provocative designers who pushed fashion forward like ALAIA, ANN DEMUELEMEESTER, RICK OWENS, YOHJI YAMAMOTO, COMME DES GARCONS, ROMEO GIGLI, MUGLER, MONTANA, PRADA and most importantly, GIANNI VERSACE. All of whom we have been highlighting in our own collection since we started two years ago! To that list we would also like to add our favorites HELMUT LANG, SONIA RYKIEL, NORMA KAMALI and JEAN PAUL-GAULTIER. And there is definitely much more to come in the future.

It was also mentioned that collecting these labels is more cost-effective compared to vintage heavy-hitters like Ossie Clark or Norman Norell. We look forward to this new appreciation of more contemporary pieces since they are frankly much wittier, more cutting-edge, and relevant for today, especially since we have always shyed away from that cliche, too-precious retro-look that many vintage outlets seem to be so fond of.

Check out VagaBondnyc.com, where shipping is always free, and our future-collectibles will always proudly be on display.

Accessory of the Week: Alaia Fishnet Gloves

Up for grabs are these classic black kid-suede gloves from the maestro of feminine refinement, AZZEDINE ALAIA. They have alluring fishnet palms that offer a sort of subversive, and elusive sexual reference and innuendo. They can be worn in a very sleek 40's Blade-Runner kind of way with a tweed Galliano hour-glass suit...

Paired over scarlet red satin gloves and an all black ensemble of fitted tuxedo suit, fishnet cloche, cigarette wand and scarlet lips a la Helmut Newton...

Or used as a strong yet subtle layering tool for a graphic urban-warrior statement.
