Legendary photographer Irving Penn passed at the age of 92 today, the end of Paris Fashion Week. A life long workaholic, the first thing that comes to mind is the incredible body of work Penn has left behind for the world. After all, he started at Vogue in the 40's, contributing some 300 pages annually for decades on end and he can be credited for bringing models into the studio against clean, austere backdrops. He also developed a very stylized yet dignified & crisp way of photographing even the most banal of things from cigarette butts to the highly inventive food photographs that accompanied Jeffrey Steingarten's work in Vogue. We'll miss those bold still lifes that always gave Vogue a much needed, perverse punch.

Sometimes and now more than ever thanks to the internet, you see an idea that's so simple, pure & clever, you can't believe you didn't think of it first. That's what we thought when we saw these series of Vogue covers initially posted on LiveJournal by 'shrubrub' composed of every 2010 cover in each edition (UK, above) layered into a single image. So genius...

Ladies, we just had to point out Vogue.com's October Scoop by Hamish Bowles that high-lighted the next big trend in collecting vintage, collecting 80's/90's era pieces from provocative designers who pushed fashion forward like ALAIA, ANN DEMUELEMEESTER, RICK OWENS, YOHJI YAMAMOTO, COMME DES GARCONS, ROMEO GIGLI, MUGLER, MONTANA, PRADA and most importantly, GIANNI VERSACE. All of whom we have been highlighting in our own collection since we started two years ago! To that list we would also like to add our favorites HELMUT LANG, SONIA RYKIEL, NORMA KAMALI and JEAN PAUL-GAULTIER. And there is definitely much more to come in the future.
