Best Fashion Short: 'Love, Chloe'
Sad that we missed this short film for Chloe's new fragrance 'Love' amidst the infamous YSL belt gossip. Director Roman Coppola, star Raquel Zimmerman and the Chloe team managed to create one of the prettiest short fashion films we have seen yet. In other words, a perfect ode to the world of Chloe.

Inspiration: Late 90's Yohji Yamamoto
Call it a collection of brides & widows if you will, but there's something about the overall serenity of this late 90's outing from Yohji Yamamoto we randomly found online that makes it so breathtaking. It's unfortunate to think of the peril his company faces today when this 1999 show proves his strength at genius design with a timeless ease. No wonder Caroyln Bessette-Kennedy started wearing his pieces exclusively around the same time. Now if we could only gets our hands on one of these gems...

Perfect...Ruth Hogben for Celine F/W 2010
Lord only knows how we missed this with all of the commotion around Celine as of late, but this video only furthers our need for all things Pheobe Philo & all things Celine. Watching Perfect... by Ruth Hogben for Celine F/W 2010, our need for one of Philo's outerwear pieces has now become a frenzy of lustful wishing. And the music by Mount Kimbie ain't bad either.

Courtney Love's Animated Video About her Style
We love Courtney Love, her music, her blog, everything about her, and this crazy-ass video she commissioned Michael Mouris to create portraying her personal style evolution is completely gratuitous yet fun. It includes Karl Lagerfeld, André Leon Talley and makes little to no sense, but from Love, would you expect anything else?

Fashion Television: YSL Haute Couture F/W 1995
Though these videos are from the later part of Yves Saint Laurent's grande career, we were more than happy to come across these. Why you ask? Well, for years & years we have been saying, so much time goes into the production of a show and furthermore, as we all know, fashion has a way of encapsulating the times. Call it nostalgia if you must, but we think its about time fashion houses start releasing dvds of not only highlights but of each and every show. Think about it, after his untimely death, how thrilling would it be to be able to look back at all the glory of Alexander McQueen on the runway without having to scramble through fuzzy videos on Youtube?

Marni Fall/Winter 2010 Womenswear Campaign
Marni may not run print ads like many of their high-end contemporaries, but we're more than happy with this sweet short film they've released for their Fall 2010 collection.

Old School Gaultier: 1987's Etienne
Even though we've got all this love for Jean Paul Gaultier, we totally forgot about this uber campy and over-the-top video he costumed in 1987 for Guesch Patti's Etienne. Sure the lyrics evoke the era's brazen sexuality, but the clothes are oh-so hubba hubba & highlight JPG at his best.

Back on Track: Maison Martin Margiela
After a few seasons of overthought misses, Maison Martin Margiela seems to be on a roll with a forward-thinking yet practical Fall 2010 collection and a new fragrance:
This commercial for "Untitled" the maison's first and highly anticipated fragrance, beautifully captures the house's mystique and cleverly hits on all of it's identifiable trademarks. We think it may be one of the best fashion related commercials in history!

Total Reality Chic at The Row Fall 2010
We've been big fans of the Olsen sister's beautifully made line of basics, The Row, for many seasons and their first runway outing for Fall 2010 beautifully showcased their knack for creating easy, well-made basics with a languid fluidity. Looking at every exit, one could think that owning every piece from the collection would be a crucial benefit for year's & year's to come.

Peter Dundas: Putting the Punch Back in Pucci
Who needs Balmania & Alexander Wang for sexy urbane date/party ready looks when you've got Peter Dundas' sumptuous new propositions at Pucci? His powerful Fall 2009 collection for the house was so sharp, trim & focused, that it leads one of us to believe that the house is now a high-impact contender in the sexy rock-star spirited genre. From the massive fur chubbies to the street ready thigh-high boots, everything was ostentatious in a rich yet louche manner, never overt in any direction. Which sounds smart compared to lets say, spikes and shoulder pads?

Comme Des Garcons Brutal & Inexcusable 1992
Just as fashion videos have begun to take importance, we've unearthed this funny gem from Comme des Garcons circa 1992. Even though it's dated in it's appeal, we'd still wear all of those clothes.

Hussein Chalayan + Nomenus Quarterly: Interval
Nomenus Quarterly may be the world's most expensive & highly collectible fashion magazine, and while it doesn't offer the sassy, slick, tricked out packaging and product development that the world's other highly elusive & expensive magazine Visionaire does, we enjoy that it is low key, beautifully executed and best of all, completely free for online viewing.Pictured above is a still from Interval, Nomenus & Hussein Chalayan's must-see short film directed by Jamie Isaia with cinematography by Andres Von Sheele & Stephen Blaise. It is so epic, it may just be our favorite fashion film yet.

Fashion on Film: Zac Posen's Ma Vendeuse
Central St. Martin's trained Zac Posen is one New York based designer who's work stands on it's own with it's nod to MGM screen starlets and classic 40's era tailoring, so it comes as no surprise to us that his short-flim centered around his Resort Collection, filmed by old-school "It" girl Lola Schnabel, is as cool and old-world as ever. Today many designers are smartly turning to short films to display not only the beauty and movement of their clothes, but to also tell a directional narrative behind the collection as well and we have to say, Posen's Ma Vendeuse, is one of the best we have seen so far. In this film, models & it-girls alike romp around in Zac Posen's current resort collection while director Lola Schnabel's grandmother reminisces about fashions of the 30's and 40's. We love not only the narration of Schnabel's grandmother, but the overall moody, voo-doo-ish, textural tone of the film. It lends Posen's label a complex sense of heady warmth and charm, one that's often hard to portray on the catwalk and in editorials.
Keep a look out for VagaBond Nyc's own upcoming short film that we just shot a few weeks prior!

Speak Easy: Alain de Botton on Fashion
London based Rodnik designer Philip Colbert recently interviewed author & philosopher Alain de Botton for Style.com to weigh in on what he thinks about fashion and we at Vnyc couldn't agree more with him. Aestheticism is the key to the good life, and it's got nothing to do with frivolity.

Bring Back House of Style!
There has been plenty of recent talk about MTV bringing back it's infamous fashion program, "House of Style," and we think it's about time! For a show about fashion, it was youthful, sincere, even a bit naive, and just so much fun to watch. Maybe it's nostalgia on our part, but we miss weekly fashion programs like "House of Style, Fashion Television and Style with Elsa Klensch." They gave us good reason to get up early every Saturday morning, and we have missed them ever since! However, this time around we hope MTV does not dare reduce the show as a vehicle for those horrible, totally vapid "Hills" girls...we've all had more than enough now!
Check out the early 90's clip above with Cindy, Linda & Jean Paul Gaultier!
